《"Be The Change To ___?" Dreams Set Sail—National Pingtung University's Freshman Navigation Camp Opens a New Chapter for Incoming Students》
To warmly welcome freshmen from all around Taiwan and abroad, National Pingtung University (NPTU) has innovatively redesigned this year's freshman orientation, now officially renamed the "Freshman Navigation Camp." Over the three-day event, nearly 160 volunteers and senior student mentors actively participated, helping freshmen become acquainted with the campus environment. Through a series of interactive activities, new students were guided to explore themselves, build team spirit, enhance their identification with the university, and envision their future paths.
The event was meticulously planned by the Student Activities Development Division of the Office of Student Affairs, alongside a dedicated student team. Leading the preparations were General Coordinator Tsai Sung-Yu from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Deputy Coordinators Kao Yi-Ting from the Department of Intelligent Robotics, Tsai Nien-Ting, and Chen Yi-Chen from the Department of Marketing and Distribution Management, as well as over twenty other team members. The team designed various team-building, interpersonal, and ice-breaking games. Additionally, the camp creatively integrated internal and external resources, presenting important announcements through interactive checkpoint games, coupled with experiential learning methods to strengthen class cohesion and deepen freshmen's understanding of academic and administrative units.
During the opening ceremony, NPTU President Chen Yung-Sen emphasized, "National Pingtung University is dedicated to international development. In recent years, the university has established dual-degree programs, sister school agreements, and cooperation memoranda with internationally renowned institutions in the United States, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and more. We encourage students to aim for the global stage." President Chen also encouraged freshmen to actively engage in research projects or industry internships during their university years, continuously improving their professional skills and communication abilities.
Dean of Student Affairs Huang Chung-Ching expressed gratitude for the hard work of the organizing team and senior student mentors (navigators), whose efforts made the Freshman Navigation Camp a great success. Dean Huang also encouraged freshmen to establish strong friendships during the camp and foster lively interactions among students and faculty.
Furthermore, the NPTU Student Union held a Student Clubs Expo during the Freshman Navigation Camp, aiming to warmly welcome new students through club activities and showcase senior students' enthusiasm, further enhancing camaraderie and unity among students.
